Create a Mistral account
Sign up on the Mistral console. Studio, the developer area, starts in Free mode with no credit card, with usage and rate limits.
Make an API key
In Studio, open API Keys, click Create new key, give it a name and click Create. Copy it straight away, because it is shown only once.
Send your first request
Store the key as MISTRAL_API_KEY and install the library with pip install mistralai. Ask mistral-large-latest "What is Mistral AI?" and the terminal prints a short description.
If you lose the key
You cannot see a key again after you close it. Make a new one under API Keys and update MISTRAL_API_KEY.
