Create, update, and search issues, projects, and cycles in Linear for streamlined project management.

Overview

Linear is a tool teams use to track work as issues (tickets), grouped into projects and cycles (Linear's word for sprints, which are short, fixed work periods). Linear's official MCP server lets your AI assistant read and update that workspace: find the tickets assigned to you, summarize what shipped this cycle, file a new bug report from a description you type, or move an issue to "Done".

Unlike most servers on this page, you do not install anything heavy: Linear hosts the server itself at mcp.linear.app, and your client connects to it over the internet. The first time you connect, a normal Linear login page opens in your browser and you approve access. This is OAuth, the same "Sign in with..." flow you have used elsewhere. The assistant then acts as you, with your permissions, and you can revoke access at any time from Linear's settings.

Instructions

Connect from your clientIn Claude Code, run: claude mcp add --transport http linear https://mcp.linear.app/mcp. In Claude Desktop or claude.ai, add Linear as a connector under Settings → Connectors. Older clients that only speak stdio can bridge with: npx -y mcp-remote https://mcp.linear.app/sse
Approve access in the browserOn first use, a browser window opens with Linear's OAuth consent screen. Sign in and approve. No API keys to copy or store. The client keeps the token, and you can revoke it later in Linear under Settings → Security & access.
First testAsk: "What issues are assigned to me in Linear right now?" You should see your real open issues. If nothing comes back, check you approved the right Linear workspace during the OAuth step.
Try a safe writeAsk the assistant to create a test issue in a sandbox or personal team, check it appears in Linear, then delete it. This confirms write access works before you rely on it for real tickets.

Access
